Fitness is phenomenally helpful not only for your mental health but also for your physical health. I personally am not the fittest at all and have only recently began my fitness journey (click here to see how I got into it). When we exercise, we increase our serotonin levels which is one of the hormones that affects mood. Therefore the more regularly we participate in healthy amounts of exercise, the more chance we will have of improving our mental health. Some research has even gone as far to say that exercising regularly can often be just as effective as some anti-depressant medication.

Knowing that lock down may cause my depression to rear it's ugly head, I began to regularly exercise to try minimize the chances of those dark thoughts creeping in. However, now being 10-12 weeks in, I've found myself getting bored of the same types of exercise. As you may have seen in a recent post '3 empowering TV show post' I’ve been enjoying watching the TV show Younger. I thought as I’ve enjoyed the TV show for so long, I would give the book that it's based on ago. As with my last book the Lifeboat, I am still enjoying Auidable for free so I indulged in the second free book that they offered me.

Tips For Getting into Fitness When You're Unfit | Victoria Jiju

Sometimes some us who maybe haven't participated in a peck of exercise decide we want to but don't really know where to star.  So below I've constructed the process of how I began to regularly exercise without becoming overwhelmed or embarrassed.
1. Try at-home workouts  For me, I couldn't think of anything worse than exercising alongside pro's who make you look or feel incompetent and like you aren't good enough.  Take it in small steps, try working out at home in an environment that your comfortable with and build your strength and endurance to a level that you may feel more comfortable about in more public areas. 
(Disclaimer: If you're confident to go to the gym and are happy in your environment, good for you - do it! I'm just stating what has worked best for me)


2. Don't Overdo It  I think it's incredibly easy to overestimate what you will be able to do when you feel inspired.  Therefore, when you first think about how you want to get into exerc…

20 Things to do in the House | Victoria Jiju

Covid-19 has reared it's ugly head and kept us all housebound- were possible. Therefore regardless of whether lockdown is lifted or you simply just do not have money, here is a list of 20 things to do in the House.


1. Make a three-course meal. Choose your a favourite meal you would pick at a restaurant, find the recipe online and cook it for yourself. 
2. Find a new series and binge-watch the entire thing over a few days.  My current favourite shows are Grey Anatomy, Hot in Cleveland, Chicago P.D, Younger and any true crime I can get my hands on. Choose anything that gets you completely engrossed.
3. Organise your kitchen cupboards. We all have one of those overflowing cupboards, whether it's your pans, spices, tins, dry foods start by taking everything out, check for expiration dates, clean the cupboard out and then re-organise. 
4. Walk your dog (not technically in the house but a free activity and allowed).
